Whoops. I lied. My state doesn't participate, but it's only $14.95 to file through Freedom Edition, vs $27.95 (or $36.95 in the Deluxe Edition!) on the regular website.

That's okay, I can take the extra ten minutes and go to my state's website and e-file there for free ;)

Just wanted to add that, with the Free edition, if you accidentally upgrade - or even intentionally, assuming you can downgrade and start over if you need or want to - to anything other than the "Free" edition, you can't undo it. You have to apply for a one-time downgrade code (that's right... <em>apply</em>... and there's even a blurb on their website stating that if you're denied, they'll give you a reason for it), and next year you'll be stuck using whatever it was that you upgraded to this year (be it Basic at $20, Deluxe at $30, or upward).

If you want to go back to the Free edition the year after, you'll have to start a new account (which ends your all-in-one-spot access to prior year documents).

I am currently rather irritated (I cleared my return and started from scratch a whopping FOUR times trying to "reset" to the Free edition before I figured out I wasn't losing my mind and contacted customer service). Despite my frustration, I decided to Google the difference between Free and Freedom Editions, and I'm glad I came across your article. I didn't mind doing my state taxes out by hand (because I'm not going to pay $37 to file them!), but knowing that the Freedom Edition will file them for me (my state participates) will relieve some of the urge to kick people that I'm feeling right now.

Comment on My Opinion of 1st Financial Bank, USA: Steer Clear by camille

This is the worst company! Run, avoid it at all costs!!

I, like many other people, got my fist credit card while in college many years ago. I unfortunately went with 1st Financial. At the time, there were no real problems, I had a higher than average interest rate, but nothing to worry about and I kept my balance low. After I graduated, my adult life began and my balance increased from moving costs, medical bills, etc. Even at that time, my payments were manageable.

Just a few years ago, they raised my interest rate to an absurd 23% ! I have excellent credit, I have always made my payments on time and pay higher than the min., but at this point it's becoming more and more difficult to keep up. I pay almost all interest each month and only a tiny piece of my balance. After a number of phone calls to the company I have no explanation other than "that's the rate the bank has set." There is no willingness to work with borrowers or even provide reasonable answers.

I've had this card for almost 10 years now and it would be a shame to cancel it but that is something I plan on doing. Just look at there website, it's amateur hour. I originally thought it was normal for the time or under construction, but nothing has changed since I first opened my card...

There are no more rewards, the interest rates are extremely high and the customer service is terrible. There are no real benefits of having a 1st Financial Bank credit card specifically. If you are a college student, take a little time to see what else is out there. It's worth the wait in the long run. Their current offer is a 0% APR for the first year and then it jumps to 29%. 29% is INSANE! Run from this company!!

Thanks Rachael for figuring this one out and taking the time to document the solution. Ditto Visual C# Kick's comment, excluding the "sir" ;)

We found it was happening only on IE8 and it seemed to be occuring intermittently. My other thought was that the something recurring was going on to make the transparency fade out like that. But we changed our 1 pixel png for a 2 pixel one and that fixed it.

It is indeed a very rare bug to change upon. In my case, I was trying to change the title of the page using jQuery().text(string) function and IE was throwing up a Javascript error!
After reading this article of course, fixing it was child's play. Thank you!

Thanks so much !
I had the bug on IE 7 & 8, and it worked by replacing my 1x1 pixel by a 2x2 pixel !

Damn!!!

Looks like I just said everything. Dude, this whole article, word to word is what I feel and do. I am a dreamweaver addict but I never use design mode.

BTW, try using Zen coding to speed up ur development time

I can now create any HTML page in ten minutes, like a machine and then get down to do CSS. First build of page gets ready within a few hours
